Dear Representatives Armstrong, Barreras, Figueroa, Johnson, Lujan, Romero, Roybal-Caballero:
As the board members of the Committee to Protect Health Care, we want to thank you for your leadership in allocating $575,000 dollars to begin planning and designing an innovative health care program that would provide health coverage to all New Mexicans.
We know too well what lack of health care means for so many Americans. As doctors and health care professionals, many of us on the frontlines of the pandemic, we have witnessed countless patients being left behind by our current health care system. Without affordable care widely available, many are often forced to choose between medical care and putting food on their table. Others forgo care until their conditions have become harder and more expensive to treat. And others fare far worse.
That’s why, leading the Committee to Protect Health Care, we believe in advocating for equitable access to quality, affordable health care that protects patients and saves lives. Our mission is to pass policies and support elected officials that work to ensure everyone in America has the health care they need to stay healthy and live meaningful lives.
We applaud the progress you accomplished on that front during this legislative session. The allocation of these funds is the first step toward improving health care access, equity, and outcomes for all New Mexicans — saving countless lives.
As you navigate the difficult process of achieving reform, we raise our hands to support you and be a resource in the future. We look forward to working together to create an affordable health care option for the people across New Mexico, and set an example for the rest of the country.
Hope and better health are finally on the horizon for New Mexicans.
Thank you for your service.
