The Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare, was enacted in 2010 to ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health insurance. The law did away with discriminatory insurance premiums due to gender and pre-existing conditions, as well as encouraging technological investments to improve health care and lower costs.
Despite facing politically motivated opposition, the Affordable Care Act currently has high approval ratings, and affords over 20 million Americans access to health care coverage.
