Enrollment for Affordable Care Act coverage begins on November 1, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has cast doubt on the ACA’s future, saying it could be abolished if Donald Trump wins next week’s presidential election.
The ACA, commonly known as Obamacare, was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010, with the goal of expanding access to and reducing costs for health insurance. More than 49 million Americans have been covered by the ACA in the past decade, the White House reported in September.
At a rally in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Monday, Johnson said health care reform would be a “”big part of the agenda”” for a second Trump presidency. “”When I say we’re going to have a very aggressive first 100 days agenda, we got a lot of things still on the table,”” he added.
